Crown Workspace Moves Investec to create a more agile working environment

Crown Workspace Moves Investec

Creating a more agile working environment

Investec is a specialist banking group with offices in London. The company wished to move 1,722 staff from 2 Gresham Street into two separate offices on the same street during a six week period, with the aim of creating a more agile working environment.

Investec required a partner to assist with the planning and the implementation of the moves. The project was to be completed on weekdays and weekends in several phases.

Working in close collaboration with the Investec team

Following a storage audit by a specialist consultant, Crown Workspace’s project manager worked in close collaboration with Investec’s team to create a detailed move plan to ensure business-as-usual operations could be maintained throughout each phase of the relocation.

A detailed audit and mapping of all locations and furniture items allowed Crown to pre-order the crates and bespoke locker boxes which would facilitate the move to agile working within the new properties.

Prior to the move, a specialist team pre-installed new curved 38″ monitors and dealer monitors into the new offices. The Crown Workspace team were able to relocate gym equipment in advance of the first desktop moves.

Over the following weeks, during the various weekend and weekday scheduled phases, the relocations team worked to deliver restaurant and café furniture, safes, meeting room furniture, facilities equipment, post room equipment, bulk filing and IT equipment alongside the personal effects of all staff. Around 300 staff were moved in each phase. Following each relocation, Crown provided post-move support for staff starting at their new workspaces.

Once all phases were complete, Crown Workspace provided a full sustainable clearance of the exited property over a three week period. The specialist team were able to collect just under 2,000 items of seating, including 1,700 office chairs and various sofas and stools, which were refurbished and resold on behalf of Investec. This reused furniture represents a carbon saving of 134 tonnes.

Environmental legislation

In line with legislative requirements, the management of all redundant furniture, equipment and materials cleared as part of this project was completed in compliance with the best practice principles of the waste hierarchy, focusing on waste prevention and reuse as a priority.

Giving back in action

As part of this clearance, Investec and Crown Workspace managed to divert 125 items of furniture including chairs, tables, and sofas to the Giving Back Project, meaning these items will be distributed to local charities, schools and social enterprises free of charge. Enabling this support represented a significant financial saving for these charities.

Environmental savings

By taking an environmentally focused approach, following Crown Workspace’s sustainable clearance approach, Investec was able to achieve significant carbon savings. The diversion of these redundant assets back into reuse and recycling over 450 tonnes of C02 were saved.

The services provided included:

  • Full move management with scheduled phasing
  • Provision of fully uniformed staff with relevant security clearance
  • Pre-installation of new curved 38” monitors
  • Pre-installation of dealer monitors
  • Supply of bespoke locker boxes
  • Relocation of office equipment, restaurant, post room, gym and facilities items
  • Bulk filing transfer
  • Safe moves
  • Clearance of vacated property
  • Sale rebates for unwanted items
  • Donation of reclaimed items to Giving Back Project
  • Recycling of end-of-life items

With ongoing support and communication between Crown Workspace and Investec, the transition between the exited property into the two new offices was executed smoothly.

UCLH Turn to CMG Member Pickfords for 2 into 1 Hospital Move

Further to our recent Membership of CFAS, along with our commitment to promote the CMG Brand, the true benefit of Membership to its Members (and prospective Members), the wide range of services that our Network of Members can provide to our Trade associates and end users alike, and our continued promotion of Quality Service, we present the latest in our short series of Member Case Studies.

Pickfords Business Solutions recently relocated The Eastman Dental Hospital and the Royal Nose, Throat and Ear Hospital to a new state-of-the-art centre in Central London.

The new centre, part of University College London Hospitals, will be one of the largest specialist centres for the treatment of conditions relating to the head and neck, including dental, ear, nose and throat (ENT), and hearing speech and balance.

Moving closer to other UCLH sites will mean that the centre will be part of the hub of University College Hospital sites and close to UCL campus, facilitating more one stop clinics, joint working, research and clinical trials.

Pickfords was selected following a formal bid procedure lead by Business Moving specialist Pat Hughes.

The moves involved relocating 200 Administration Staff to Euston Road and Tottenham Court Road, The education centre to Mortimer Market and the Clinical Areas to the New Huntley street Building.  Pickfords provided packing services to pack and relocate delicate medical equipment, furniture and the hospitals’ specialist stores

The move was phased over three weeks with the majority of the work being undertaken on the Fridays and Saturdays to avoid disruption to services provided to their patients.

Head of Business Solutions Martin Budd from Pickfords said “We are delighted to have been appointed and look forward to supporting UCLH’s vision to provide top quality patient care, excellent education and world class research at its new facility”.

The Commercial Moving Group (CMG) of the British Association of Removers Join CFAS

The Chairman and Council are pleased to announce that in our 30th Anniversary Year, the Commercial Moving Group of the BAR have recently joined CFAS in order to further promote the CMG Brand, and the vast range of services that our Members can provide to a wider spectrum of the Relocation Industry.

To enable an understanding of the wide range of work our Members undertake, we have produced a selection of Case Studies highlighting both normal every day work, along with some specialist relocation’s that have recently been carried out.

We start with CMG Member Specialised Movers, who successfully completed the Relocation of the entire REME (Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) Museum Collection consisting of over 125,000 individual items. All uniquely asset tagged, and all of historical, monetary and extreme emotive value to the regiment.

Specialised Movers packed, wrapped, inventoried, asset tagged, over-packed into airfreight-cartons, secured to pallet bases, shrink wrapped, (or packed into bespoke wooden crates/cases), transported and delivered into new site at RAF Lyneham. All items were checked by client staff onto vehicles and again upon delivery.

Specialist items:

Priceless artefacts from WWII automated mannequins, libraries, working steam-train models, medal collections, battalion-banners, and regimental paintings. Heavy lifting equipment used for Volkswagen displays (REME rescued VW at the end of WWII), missiles, military vehicles and larger weaponry.

The Relocation was successfully completed within the required 12-week schedule, working with a smaller crew to ensure all staff had thorough understanding of the site, the national importance of collections, the exact logistics, protective levels and also the working culture and needs of the museum site, its curators and its staff.

As we say at the Commercial Moving Group, it’s all in a days work for our BS8522 certificated members.
