OE Electrics Marks German Expansion with Charity Cycle Ride

OE Electrics, the multi award-winning manufacturer of innovative data distribution and power solutions, is marking the firm’s opening of its German manufacturing base and sales office with a whole lot of pedal power.

On 15 August 2019, 17 members of the OE Electrics team will set out on a five-day journey – 15 of them by bike, cycling the 512km from their UK head office in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, to their German base in Gummersbach, 50km east of Cologne. It will culminate in a special reception on the evening of 19 August to celebrate the safe arrival of the cyclists and the official launch of OE Electrics GmbH.

The cycle ride will be aiming to raise £5,000 for the life-saving work of Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and Helfende Hände Oberberg, which helps seriously ill children and their families.

The willing volunteers include group managing director, David Masters, technical director, Tim Hobbs – who will be cycling alongside his sons, Ben and Toby, plus six members of the production team, four from the admin team and a super-keen apprentice, Lewis Phillips.

David Masters, said: “We’re always up for a challenge and thought that a mammoth bike ride between our HQ in Wakefield and our German base would be a great way to celebrate the organisation’s own journey as well as take in some beautiful scenery as we travel through Europe.

“We see this as an excellent opportunity to forge stronger links between our parent company in the UK and our new facility in Germany. What’s more, it’s the perfect occasion to benefit charities close to our hearts. I imagine there will be a few aching muscles after four days in the saddle, but it’s all good fun.”

OE began life as Office Electrics Ltd in 1986. It was bought by current owners, Richard and Tim Hobbs in 1993, with a turnover of around £1m and eight employees. The company rebranded as OE Electrics in 2014 and due to its continued success, moved into Calder Point in 2017, creating a purpose-built advanced manufacturing facility.

Today, the company operates across three continents, supplying its products to over 60 countries; and employs 185 staff. Its products can be found in call centres, hospitals, airports, hotels, cafés, shopping malls, sports centres and many other environments across the globe.
